Geschmack: Geschmorte rote Früchte verbinden sich mit Zimt, der Würze von nelken und reichhaltigem Rauch.
Im Nachklang ein volles finish mit Citrus und glühenden Scheiten im Lagerfeuer.

Einiges Aufsehen erregt im April 2018 die Ankündigung des unabhängigen Abfüllers Gordon & MacPhail, daß das Portfolio einen relaunch erfahren wird. Das damals 122 Jahre alte Familienunternehmen reduzierte dabei die einzelnen Linien von ungefähr 14 auf nur noch 5 ranges. ‘Discovery’, ‘Distillery Labels’, ‘Connoisseurs Choice’, ‘Private Collection’ und ‘Generations’.
Die erste im neuen look war die ‘Connoisseurs Choice’, die 2018 auch schon ihren 50. Geburtstag feiert. 1968, als George Urquhart damit begann, single malts abzufüllen, hielt man ihn für exzentrisch.
Aber man kann heute kaum ermessen, was die Veröffentlichung der Connoisseurs Choice, oder kurz CC für die single malts, den Scotch whisky und die Scotch whisky industry insgesamt bedeutet. Und was sie vor allem bis heute für die whisky Freunde bedeutet.

24.07.2023, Elgin Gordon & MacPhail’s time as an independent bottler will, over the coming decades, slowly come to an end as the company evolves to prioritise single malt production from its own distilleries.
From 2024, Gordon & MacPhail will cease filling spirit into cask from distilleries not owned by the company. This will allow it to control its own destiny by focusing on Benromach and The Cairn. These distilleries secure supply of the highest quality single malt whisky.
For the past 128 years, Gordon & MacPhail has sent casks to over 100 Scotch whisky distilleries, filling them with new-make spirit and expertly maturing them for many years. Over that time it has transformed from greengrocer to whisky merchant and independent bottler to owner of two distilleries.
This is a significant next step in the long-term evolution of the company. However, for the next several decades, whiskies bearing the Gordon & MacPhail marque will continue to be released, discovered and enjoyed from the company’s extensive portfolio of some of the world’s rarest and most sought-after single malts.
