Das finish ist lange, wirft Echos von Torf und Rauch minutenlang. Empfehlung: A fantastic late-night digestif malt whisky. Also suitable for taking the chill off a cold day. Excellent with blue vein cheeses.
Eine zweite Meinung: Aroma: Rauch einer Zigarette, während man Rührrei, Jakobsmuscheln und Erdbeer-Käsekuchen ißt. (Uahhh). Birnen, ein Sack Gras (ja das Gras), Zimt. Seesalz, Riesenseetang, Zitronenkäsekuchen, eine Wolke von Torf, Pfirsiche oder Nectarinen, Rauch eines Feueres.
Geschmack: Erstaunliche Balance von Anfang bis Ende. Torf und Jod- bis Früchtekorbaromen, dann brennende Blätter oder brennendes Holz im Freien. Einzelne Aromenabteilungen, die aber meisterhaft harmonieren, vielleicht sogar etwas zu glatt und zu stimmig. Ein Monster? Ja, vielleicht Krümel ...
Eine weitere Meinung: Farbe: Helles Gold.
Aroma: Interessante Kombination von Vanille und Rauch, sogar ein Hauch von Frucht und Gewürzen irgendwo im Hintergrund. Rauchig, mit Noten von spätnächtlichem Lagerfeuer.
Geschmack: Ein Abenteuer in Torf und Torf. Richtig torfig, kernig, ein Schwall Rauch im ersten Schluck und dieser Rauch läßt nicht ab. Ein sehr großzügiger whisky, der Geschmack von Rauch auf der Zunge könnte über Nacht anhalten. Er ist nicht überwältigend und sicherlich nicht monströs, zumindest nicht in negativer Weise, nur ein schöner warmer Raucheindruck mit einigen anderen kuriosen Aromen im Hintergrund. Früchte? Vanille? Leder? Er weckt den Wunsch nochmal und immer wieder zu probieren um das herauszufinden. Wirklich keine Monstrosität, braucht keinen Stuhl und Peitsche um gezähmt zu werden.
Vielleicht einige Schlucke Wasser hin und wieder und etwas Zeit.
Das Peat Monster ist vielleicht nichts für Anfänger in whisky und wird eingefleischte whisky Gegner nicht überzeugen. Zu groß und abschreckend dafür, ...we know this is one monster we'd be happy to find under our bed.

Das Peat Monster enthält Islay single malts from the village of Port Askaig as well as some south shore whisky (as of late 2007) und Ardmore. Alle sind 10-16 Jahre alt und aus einem wood mix von first-fill und refill American oak.
Seit 2007 enthält er auch south shore Islay malt, aber welchen? Wenn man berücksichtigt, daß John Glaser beste connections zu Diageo hat fällt einem Lagvulin ein.

Each is made from casks chosen individually, cask-by-cask, to ensure perfect maturity. The casks are combined according to recipe and returned to wood for “marrying” up to 12 months before bottling. Steps like these enhance complexity, flavour integration and soft mouthfeel. Extra steps, but we think they’re worth it."
