Ergebnis ist der typische reiche Bushmills Charakter, ein komplexer und geschmeidiger triple-distilled single malt mit subtil eleganten Noten von Damaszenerpflaumen, schwarzem Kaffee und Mandeln.
Ausbau: Specially matured in ruby Port pipes

Die Sherry Cask Reserve war die erste Abfüllung der Steamshop Collection von Bushmills für den Travel Retail.
Seit Ende September 2016 gibt es die zweite Edition, Port casks. Nichts mehr von Literflasche und nichts mehr von travel retail, obwohl er auch dafür gedacht ist.
1890 ging das hauseigene Dampfschiff SS Bushmills auf seine Jungfernfahrt zuerst nach Amerika, u. a. Philadelphia und New York und dann weiter nach Singapur, Hong Kong, Shanghai und Yokohama. Die damaligen Busmillseigentümer, The Boyd Brothers wollten ihren whiskey weltweit bekann machen und das Schif brachte auf der Rückreise volle Fässer mit Rum, fortified wine und bourbon mit. Nun zum 125. Jubiläum dieser Reise im letzten Jahr wollte man an die Tradition der Reifung vom Bushmills malt in verschiedenen Fässern anknüpfen und begann die neue Serie ganz klassisch in Oloroso sherry casks. Es wurde nicht ganz klar, ob der whiskey egal wie alt er ist, die ganze Zeit in den casks war oder gefinished wurde.
Beim Port war drei Jahre lang Portwein in den casks, bevor sie zu Bushmills kamen....
Interessant auch, daß nicht Old Bushmills Distillery Master Distiller Colum Egan Stellung nimmt sondern Helen Mulholland, Master Blender of Bushmills Irish Whiskey: “We pride ourselves on understanding the different nuances that different barrels impart on our whiskey. Up to 80% of the character of whiskey comes from the cask, so I make it my mission to travel to Portugal to meet with the craftsmen and estate owners from Douro Valley.
“As a region whose stony soil yields only low quantities of grapes which are of outstanding quality and perfect for making port, it is here where I personally select the best casks for Port Cask Reserve. After a seasoning period of at least three years they are emptied and shipped back to Bushmills to be filled with our whiskey – letting the residual flavours from the charred wood work their magic. The result is our trademark rich, complex and smooth triple-distilled single malt whiskey with subtle elegant notes of damson, black coffee and almonds.
