Charakteristik:
bottlers note: Aroma: Dunkle Beeren gemischt mit einem Hauch von bitterem Kaffee und cremigem Kakao.
Geschmack: Die Cremigkeit des Kakaos setzt sich fort und passt wunderbar zu den subtilen Kaffeetönen. Abgerundet wird dies durch einen Hauch von Karamell.
Im Nachklang lang, verweilend mit einem cremigen Mundgefühl.
Ausbau: hand selected sherry casks conditioned with Imperial Stout beer, refilling these seasoned casks with our blend of malt and grain whiskey
Besonderheit: non chill-filtered, natural colour, limited edition 3000 Flaschen. blend aus malt und grain whiskey.
Laut Importeur besteht der blend aus 35% malt whiskey, 50% wheat whiskey und 15% grain whiskey.
Er sei zunächst 4 Jahre im bourbon cask gereift und wurde schließlich für sein finish für 6 Monate in das zuvor mit Whistler 7 und anschließend Stout gefüllte sherry Faß gegeben. Dasliest sich auf dem Etikett anders...

Die homepage spricht von pot still Irish whiskey, verkauft werden bisher single malts, die sicher nicht aus eigener Produktion stammen.
Kennen Sie Drogheda? Nein, nicht „Die Dornenvögel“, das Original in County Louth, Boyne Valley Irland. In Drogheda waren einst mehr als 18 lokale Brennereien zu Hause, aber schon 1822 war es nur noch eine.
Nun kommt der whiskey seit 2015 zurück. Mit einer Investition von 20 Mio. € sollen 80 Jobs in Drogheda mit einer neuen distillery and brewery, a visitor centre with a 120-seater restaurant geschaffen werden.
Dahinter steckt der bekannte irische Geschäftsmann Pat Cooney. Im Spätjahr 2017 eröffnet war der Plan natürlich zunächst einmal whiskey, aber vor allem Gin und eine range of craft beers für den heimischen und den Export Markt zu machen. Die Brauerei hat bereits 2015 begonnen zu brauen.
The Boann Distillery and Boyne Brewhouse ist das Projekt von Pat Cooney und Familie, die davor die Gleeson Group zu einem bedeutenden Unternehmen der Getränkeherstellung und des Großhandels gemacht hatten. Sie haben die Gleeson Group 2012 an C&C verkauft und dafür 12,4 Mio. € erhalten. Für die Destillerie konnte man den international bekannten master distiller John McDougall als consultant distiller gewinnen, er arbeitet eng mit Áine O’ Hora, head distiller and brewer zusammen. John war head distiller at The Balvenie, Laphroaig, Springbank, Tormore und Plymouth Gin und ist „the only man alive to have distilled all five types of Scotch whisky and also Irish whiskey.“
Die stills wurden aus Siena in Italien geordert, von allen Ländern der Welt. Mit diesen soll pot still Irish whiskey gemacht werden.
„It has always been a family dream to craft and distill our very own Irish whiskey. Our specially designed and distinctive nano-copper pot stills and fine oak cask cellars, ensure we produce a whiskey of distinct character with a real sense of place.“
„Every raw ingredient sourced is 100% natural and 100% local. Every drop of water is drawn from our Boyne Valley well. Every grain of barley is provided by our native farmers. We operate a closed loop system for water, recycling all our input water and maximising energy recovery from our systems. The heat generated helps run our packaging lines and will heat the restaurant, visitor centre and offices. Rain water harvesting will be utilised to minimise our footprint and also water our gin botanicals. All bi-products of distillation, pot ale and spent grains are very high in protein and used as animal feed. From milling to mashing, maturing to bottling, every elegant mouthful of Boann malted pot still whiskey and craft gin is created within the quietude of our family distillery.“
